Playlist Thursday: Covers, Lumberjacks, Break-Ups, and Coney Island Queen

*Disclaimer* Two of the songs I have mentioned in this playlist talk about getting high. I DO NOT endorse or support or believe in using drugs of ANY kind...Well ibuprofen doesn't count...but I think you know what I mean. I don't believe in getting "high". Sorry if that makes you question my taste in music, but I just thought I should let you know that.

When asked which posts are my favorite to write, I have to say my Playlist Thursday posts are my favorite. I get to share music with you and in return, some of you give me songs that become some of my all-time favorites. I know this sounds completely cheesy and uber cliche, but music speaks when you can't. Music is there when silence and words (without melodies and harmonies) just don't work. I love it so much. I love reading lyrics and finding beautiful little gems. I hope ya'll enjoy these posts just as much as I do. And if you don't. Oh well. We can still be friends.

1. To Be With You by The Honey Trees

"Oh, I could sail the world...search through the darkest waters, but I'd never find these golden eyes."

I found this lovely song in the Youtube sidebar. I was just clicking through songs with titles that caught my attention. I discovered this one and I love it so much. It was hidden away in the beautiful part of Youtube. Thank you Tube.

2. Drops in the River by Fleet Foxes

"Crown of leaves, high in the window on a cold morning
Young today, old as a railroad tomorrow
Days are just drops in the river to be lost always
Only you, only you, you know"

When I live in a cabin deep in an evergreen wood with a lumberjack/woodsmen husband with the perfect amount of scruff, Fleet Foxes will be our soundtrack as we stargaze and eat food roasted over a fire. Wouldn't that be a dream?

3. Take Care (Drake Cover) by Florence + The Machine

"You won’t ever have to worry. You won’t ever have to hide. You've seen all my mistakes...so look me in my eyes. If you let me, here's what I'll do...I'll take care of you."

Florence's speaking voice is so sweet. I love it.  Then she starts to sing and it just blows your mind because she has this ethereal voice that seriously has the powers of heaven in it. It's haunting...but in a totally not creepy way. In like a deep way. You know what I mean? Haha. I love this cover more than the original. Her band is phenomenal and she singraps. It's perfect.

4. Call Me Maybe (Carly Rae Jepsen Cover) by Ben Howard

"Hey, I just met you and this is crazy, but here's my number...so call me maybe?"

This my friends, is the cover of the year. Really though. The cover of the year. He took a SUPER poppy and ridiculous (but so catchy) song and made it into something so cool. Ben Howard, you are a genius. The way he sings the chorus is amazing. I also love that he keeps laughing at himself while he's singing. It must be the lyrics. Boy, you came into my life...I missed you so bad. Or he could just feel rad for making the song so rad. Way to be Ben.

5. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift

"I say, I hate you. We break up. You call me. I love you."

The NEWEST AND BEST BREAK UP song T-Swift has ever written. Yeah the lyrics may not be poetic at all, but they sure hook you the first time you listen. I haven't stopped listening since I first heard it. All the ladies in the house, tell your ex how it is. Be strong and stand up for yourself! Let's forget the guys that broke our hearts into pieces. They aren't even worth it.

6. Born to Die by Lana Del Rey
(The music video contains some pretty passionate and forceful kissing and the whole thing is pretty depressing,  but the only part I want you to see is her sitting in this IMPECCABLY BEAUTIFUL room between two tigers with a GORGEOUS crown made of flowers. I was dying over how pretty everything was.)

"Sometimes love's not enough when the road gets tough...I don't know why."

When I first heard Lana Del Rey's song Video Games, I vowed that I would NEVER listen to her stuff again. I couldn't stand her voice, her lyrics, her face. I couldn't. But then....my brother would play her music all the time in his car and I couldn't escape her. Now I think I have found a better guilty pleasure than Ke$ha. Whatever happened to her anyway? Did she die?

Anyway, so here is my favorite song by the Coney Island Queen.

What are some of your "guilty pleasure" artists? Miley Cyrus? The Jonas Brothers? What is your playlist for the week? Does your music choice change as you go from Summer to Fall? What songs have you been inspired by recently? Comment below and have a very nice day!
