That playlist that gets you through...

Monday, April 14, 2014

We all have one. Here's mine. On a Monday. How novel.

1. Below My Feet by Mumford and Sons

People, listen up. The lyrics to this song are absolutely gorgeous and the last minute of it could bring the hardest man to tears. It is so powerful and beautiful and intense. I love it.

2. Fare Thee Well (Dink's Song) by Oscar Isaac and Marcus Mumford

Are you even surprised that this is on here? You shouldn't be.

3. Black Flies by Ben Howard

"No man is an island."

4. These Days by The Black Keys

5. Farewell by Alan Menken

Well of course something from Pocahontas was on here. It had to be. Like I can't even stop crying right now as I type this. Oh gosh...

1. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Soundtrack

People, the whole thing is beyond beautiful. I want to watch this movie a thousand times because it is just so perfect.

"These blood red eyes, don't see so good. But what's worse is if they could, would I change my ways?"

It's a lonely road,  full of tired men, and you can see it in their faces. And you'll be home in spring. I can wait till then. I heard you're on a big train. And all this too shall pass...This loneliness won't last for long.  I wasn't there to take his place. I was ten thousand miles away. So when you hear my voice,
when you say my name...may it never give you pain."

"So show us a bird, flying high above. Life ain't worth living without the one you love. So fare thee well my honey, fare thee well."

"In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade. And he carries the reminders of ev'ry glove that laid him down, and cut him till he cried out in his anger and his shame,"I am leaving, I am leaving." But the fighter still remains. Lie la lie"

If you ever need to find me I can still be found taking the long way around...

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

This has been a week of busy-ness, stress, and tears. Tyler has had to comfort me to sleep once or twice.

A tender mercy has appeared though, because it has also been a week of beautiful music. I hope you enjoy these playlist picks as much as I have.

1. Fish and Whistle by John Prine

"Father forgive us for what we must do; you forgive us and we'll forgive you. We'll forgive each other 'til we both turn blue and go fish and whistle in heaven."

2. Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me by The Lower Lights

"May I hear thee say to me, 'Fear not; I will pilot thee.'"

Oh The Lower Lights. They are the loveliest.

3. A Quarter Century by Carter Burwell from The True Grit Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

True Grit is one of my favorite movies ever. The Coen brothers recreated the masterpiece beautifully. The soundtrack is absolutely gorgeous. I love this old hymn. So peaceful and contemplative.

4. The Wicked Flee by Carter Burwell from The True Grit Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

5. Keep on The Sunny Side by The Whites

"Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side. Keep on the sunny side of life."

This song is so stinking happy. I love it to pieces.

6. You Are My Sunshine by Elizabeth Mitchell

7. Gale Song by The Lumineers

"Oh this too shall pass..."

This song is beyond.

8. The Long Way Around by The Dixie Chicks

"I've been long time gone now maybe someday, someday I'm gonna settle but I always find my way somehow by taking the long way around."

This song described my senior year of high school and freshman year of college. I'd like to think it describes my life. Gypsy living with Tyler.

9. Landslide by Fleetwood Mac (this version, and this version too)

"Oh mirror in the sky, what is love?"

10. Shot at The Night by The Killers

Holy crap, this is good. So good. Like where has this been? Brandon...I love you. So does Tyler so it's okay.

11. Riptide by Vance Joy

"Closest thing to Michelle Pfeiffer you have ever seen."

This song is summer.

12. Old Pine by Ben Howard

I know, this has been in my last three playlists, but I'm really obsessed. I just can't get enough. The guitar...

Last but not least...my absolute favorite song right now. If Tyler and I hadn't heard Amazing Eyes before this song, it would have been our wedding song.

13. Fare Thee Well (Dink's Song)  by Oscar Isaac and Marcus Mumford

"If I had wings like Noah's dove
I'd fly the river to the one that I love

Fare thee well, my honey fare thee well

I had a man, who was long and tall
He moved his body like a cannon ball
Fare thee well, my honey, fare thee well

I remember one evening in the pouring rain
And in my heart there was an aching pain
Fare thee well, my honey, fare thee well

Muddy river runs muddy and wild
You can't give a bloody for my unborn child
Fare thee well, my honey, fare thee well

Just as sure as the birds are flying high
Life ain't worth living if you ain't with the one you love
Fare thee well, my honey, fare thee well"

I really want to see Inside Llewyn Davis. The soundtrack is fantastic. It makes me cry, it's that good. Oh gosh...every time I hear it I get choked up. Even as I'm writing this. Talor if you are reading this...you NEED to hear this song.

What songs have you been listening to lately? Any ones you would like to share? Please do!
Happy listening, as usual.
Stay gold.
