That playlist that gets you through...

Monday, April 14, 2014

We all have one. Here's mine. On a Monday. How novel.

1. Below My Feet by Mumford and Sons

People, listen up. The lyrics to this song are absolutely gorgeous and the last minute of it could bring the hardest man to tears. It is so powerful and beautiful and intense. I love it.

2. Fare Thee Well (Dink's Song) by Oscar Isaac and Marcus Mumford

Are you even surprised that this is on here? You shouldn't be.

3. Black Flies by Ben Howard

"No man is an island."

4. These Days by The Black Keys

5. Farewell by Alan Menken

Well of course something from Pocahontas was on here. It had to be. Like I can't even stop crying right now as I type this. Oh gosh...

A Playlist In Which I Get Weepy about The Lumineers

Thursday, February 21, 2013

There's nothing really new in this playlist, I have shared a bunch of the songs already but...Oh how I love beautiful music. Here are some pretty tunes to listen to over and over again. Enjoy!

1. Hymn by Brooke Fraser

"If I flee from greenest pastures. Would you leave to look for me? Forfeit glory to come after. 'Til I only dwell in Thee."

 (Anything by Brooke Fraser, really.)

2. Stubborn Love by The Lumineers

"It's better to feel pain, than nothing at all. The opposite of love's indifference. So pay attention now, I'm standing on your porch screaming out, and I won't leave until you come downstairs."

3. Big Parade by The Lumineers

"Catholic priest, Catholic priest in a crisis
Torn between romance and Jesus, who will win the civil war
And he says I'm in love, I'm in love with a woman
Yea this is my confession, I'm leaving, I can't a priest anymore, anymore

And oh my my, oh hey hey
There he goes, the man of faith
Left the church for a fiancée
Let him love, a man of faith."

4. Morning Song by The Lumineers

"And it's a shame that it ends this way...with nothing left to say. So just sit on your hands, while I walk away...And my car won't stop 'cause I cut the brakes. I hold on to a hope in my fate... May you return to love one day. Well I hope and I pray you get what you gave."

Confession: It's impossible for me NOT to cry during this song. Just listen to the lyrics and the pain in his voice. I need to see it in concert. I need to.

If you haven't listened to all of The Lumineers music, I don't know what music you're listening to. All of their songs are gold.

5. Pride and Prejudice by Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Dario Marianelli
One of the most beautiful movie soundtracks. I used to have the piano sheet music but a girl in my ward back home borrowed it and never gave it back...every time I ask her for it she changes the subject or says she gave it back. Lame. This was the best playlist I could find for all of the music, but if you have Spotify it's there and it is even worth a buy on iTunes

6. Babel by Mumford and Sons
The whole album. Just listen to it all. Go buy it. There is a reason why it got "Album of the Year".

A Playlist Continued, Friday Favorites and a Happy Weekend

Friday, October 5, 2012

I am actually getting my Friday Favorites done early. I should get a prize! What a wonderful week it has been. A real blessing since last week was such a pain. I sure do appreciate weeks like this, and I sure do appreciate those who read this silly blog. It brings me to tears sometimes. Anyway, enough of me being sappy, let's get to the favorites.

Thursday Playlist Continued...

1. Babel by Mumford & Sons

I am completely impressed with this new album by Mumford & Sons. I think they all have such impeccable talent. It is now my dream to see them live one day. You can listen to Sigh No More  and Babel  together and it's the perfect playlist. I definitely recommend checking it out if you haven't already. Some of my favorites from it are, Holland Road, Ghosts That We Knew (Marcus Mumford's voice in this one could make any girl fall in love, even the most loveless person. It's amazing), Lover of the Light, Not with Haste, and Where Are You Now. So basically the whole thing. Really though.

2. Fire Is In the Fjord by Emily and the Woods

This song came up so many times on Spotify this week. It would come on at the most beautiful times. At times where I was looking outside at the fall covered mountains. Times when I just needed to sit and think. Times when I was reflected about my life. I could just go on and on about how beautiful it is. Please check out Emily and the Woods, she has a Norah Jones/ Ellie Goulding vibe to her voice.

3. I've Been Loving You Too Long by Otis Redding

Soul music. 1960's R&B. Awesome.

4. DJ Ease My Mind by Niki & The Dove

DJ would you please ease my mind?

More Favorites...

5. Once Upon a Pizza Night

Nothing says college life better than Pizza and Once Upon a Time with the coolest girls on the block.

6. Political Debates and Donuts
Whoa really? Well yeah, I got informed without every single BYU student telling me how much they hate Barack Obama. I say respect those who are doing one the hardest things in the world. Really though, Mr. Prez is probably a cool guy, and I'm sure Mitt Romney is just as awesome. They are probably secretly like the best of friends. Oh and about the donuts...if you're going to watch a debate make sure donuts are present. They make things a lot happier.

7. Girls Night
More pizza, manicures, ice cream, and hot tubbing. Soooo fun. Also, who doesn't love getting to know the most golden girls in your ward? We should spotlight more often, but remember what is said in the hot tub...STAYS in the hot tub.

What were some highlights of your week? What do you think of the new Mumford album? What are your plans for the weekend?

I hope your weekend is a happy one. Enjoy conference (if you watch), and stay golden.

P.S. If this post seemed scatterbrained or sloppy, I apologize. I noticed that my posts haven't been drafted as nicely as I would want. I'll work on it.

Playlist Thursday: Feelings

Thursday, September 27, 2012

Uh... so basically this whole week I listened to Gotye Live on Letterman, Bon Iver's concert at Radio City Music Hall, and Mumford & Sons new album Babel. Not even kidding, but I have a playlist of individual songs I've listened to as well. Enjoy and expect a whole playlist about Mumford's new album soon!

1. Swim Good by Frank Ocean

"I'm about to drive in the ocean. I'ma try to swim from something bigger than me. Kick off my shoes and swim good, and swim good. Take off this suit and swim good, and swim good, good."

Frank Ocean? Yes. Me gusta. Don't hate.

2. Climax by Usher

"We made a mess of what used to be love. So why do I care, I care at all?"

Uh, so stop blushing at the title of this song please! It's Usher what do you expect?  Thank you! When Valley Boy goes through a R&B music phase, you do too. It happens.

3. 1000 Words by Nobuo Uematsu

A little change of pace...I have always been a HUGE fan of the Final Fantasy games and the soundtracks. Listen and love.

4.  Autumn Leaves by Ed Sheeran

Do you ever wonder if the stars shine out for you?

Aw, yes another Ed Sheeran song. His voice is gold. Pure gold.

5.  Nothing Left to Say/ Rocks by Imagine Dragons

"My age has never made me wise, but I keep pushing on and on and on and on."

"Timber timber, we’re falling down. Let the forest hear us out."

Feelings. Lots and lots of feelings.

6. Begin Again by Taylor Swift

"But I've been spending the last eight months thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end."

Even more feelings. So many feelings. Favorite song by Taylor Swift right now. All-time favorite. I said this on my tumblr, it knocked "Ours" off of the top. It reminds me so much of her beginnings. I love songs like that remind you of good ol times, even if they are bittersweet love songs.

One more thing...

So this one time I asked a bunch of my close friends what their favorite songs were. I made a big list, and then....I left it at home when I moved away to college. So...if you would like to you should totally comment with your favorite songs. I love sharing music that my friends recommend to me. I am also thinking about making a "Dani's All-Time Favorite Songs" Playlist. What do you think? Can I do it? It might be slightly difficult. I have a lot of favorites. We'll see, we'll see.

What have you been listening to recently? What music inspires you? Comment below and have a lovely day.
