Monday Musing // How could you do this to me?

Monday, April 7, 2014

Today was not a good day. Well there were some good things, like my professor canceling the final, chinese food with coworkers, and the biggest hugs from Tyler...but other than that...this day has been the pits. The pits.

Of course it happens right after General Conference weekend. Of course, it happens on the last full week of school. Of course it involves my one gateway to school work and academic success...my computer.

Yes, my computer hard drive crashed today and it is unrecoverable. That means all of my projects, gone. All of my hard work wiped away. All of it, except for the decent little pieces of work that I have put away on a 4GB Sandisk Cruzer.

Today, I didn't even cry about it. I didn't even rage. I had to silently push back the tears and carry on, because not everybody cares about how helpless or useless or disheveled or downtrodden you feel. That's life.

So...I found myself fighting off the tears with a sore throat and an itchy nose and a burning face thinking, "How could you do this to me, Heavenly Father? How? How could this happen now? Why?"

And I wanted to scream and cry and throw things, but I didn't...because it was a time where I really had to put things into perspective.

I had to take a moment to show my gratitude.

I am overwhelmed still and tired. And worried. And hoping that my computer can be at least repaired in some decent way very soon. So for now, watch this video and listen to this talk.

It's all worth it.

I'm trying to be grateful.

But I'm not perfect.

But sometimes trying is enough.

That's all.

I have been refreshed...

Reading beautiful words is on my "Life missions" list and I take that mission very seriously, so without further ado, here are some quotes! Enjoy.
"And then my soul saw you and it kind of went, ‘Oh there you are. I’ve been looking for you.’"
Iain Thomas, I Wrote This For You
Wouldn't that be a lovely thing to feel?

From Conference...
"Imperfect people are all God has ever had to work with. That must be terribly frustrating to Him, but He deals with it - so should we. And when we see imperfection, remember that the limitation is not in the divinity of the work."
— Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

"God does not wish to break your spirit. On the contrary, He desires that you rise up and become the person you were designed to be."
—Dieter F. Uchtdorf

"Healing comes when we move away from the darkness and walk toward the hope of a brighter light. It was in the practical application of faith, hope, and charity that she not only transformed her own life but forever blessed the lives of many, many others. There may be some among you who feel darkness encroaching upon you. You may feel burdened by worry, fear, or doubt. To you, and to all of us, I repeat a wonderful and certain truth: God’s light is real. It is available to all. It gives life to all things. It has the power to soften the sting of the deepest wound. It can be a healing balm for the loneliness and sickness of our souls." —Dieter F. Uchtdorf

"Start where you are. Isn’t it wonderful to know that we don’t have to be perfect to experience the gifts of our Heavenly Father?"
—Dieter F. Uchtdorf

"The darkness will surely fade because it cannot exist in the presence of light."
—Dieter F. Uchtdorf

As you can see, I was very touched by President Uchtdorf's talk.

And two more...

"Stars are not immortal, even they will fade. But you and I are not. - Neal A. Maxwell

"Unexpected intrusions of beauty. This is what life is."
—Saul Bellow, Herzog

My unexpected intrusion of beauty today? The falling rain and the puddles that followed this morning. Even if my shoes got soaked through.

What intrusions of beauty have you seen today? What are some of your favorite quotes? Did you watch Conference? What were the highlights for you?

Comment.
Stay gold.

This is getting crazy...

Friday, April 5, 2013

Really though, another Friday? All I can say is that I'm incredibly grateful. Oh and not to mention that it's General Conference weekend, bring on the cinnamon rolls, tears, and enlightenment. Bring. It. On. Elder Holland I am ready for you! (P.S. I will say President Uchtdorf and Elder Scott are my favorite speakers, well I like them all, but sometimes Elder Holland scares me. Just sayin' He's just so powerful.)

Favorite #1: I GOT THE JOB! I don't think I ever mentioned that I was applying for a Peer Mentor position here on campus, and if I did I was probably talking about all of the other jobs I was applying for, but this one was at the top of my list and I got it! Oh words cannot describe how grateful I am for this opportunity! I cannot wait to mentor young freshman. I can't wait to be surrounded by the kindest of people. I cannot wait to work hard, to grow, to change, and to see my students grow and change. I am so incredibly grateful for this tremendous opportunity. I won't let you down! I won't!

Favorite #2: Bean and Cheese Burritos
I know, I know, probably not the healthiest thing but I seriously love those things. I was at Winco the other day and I wanted to buy one frozen meal and I chose those and I'm sure glad I did, because I was starving yesterday and needed grub and those were the easiest things to whip up. I mean you put it in the microwave for 2 minutes. Add a thick slice of colby jack and salsa and call it dinner for a college student minus the ramen.

Favorite #3: 100 Rules of Dinner
(Yeah, I just posted this after talking to you about my bean and cheese burritos. Not ashamed.)

Favorite #4: Life of Pi
I watched it with a friend yesterday and I was mesmerized by the outstanding beauty.

Favorite #5: Raspberry and Blueberry Granola and yogurt.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snack of Zeus. I am a sucker for that combo.

Favorite #6: #mightlove
#mightylove
#mightylove
Pretty much the best internet spamming ever.

Favorite #7: This tree.
Who could not be in love with those blossoms?

Favorite #8: The fact that Everlane has belts now.

Favorite #9: My birthday is in 8 days! AH! 20 years old can you believe it?

Favorite #10: This pretty bauble for the wrist.

Favorite #11: Pointed-toe flats for the win.
And if these sandals aren't the cutest, I don't know what cute is anymore.

Favorite #12: The fact that Talor is on Instagram. I die. Beware Miss Cunningham, I am coming for your photos...expect a #mightlove gram soooooon.

So what have been your favorites of the week? What are you cooking up for dinner tonight? Any suggestions? Anything you'd like to say? If so, comment below. Stay gold.

AND

Have a very happy and very safe weekend.

Life Lately...

Monday, October 8, 2012

What a weekend I had. I will be completely honest with you, I had a really hard time focusing during conference. I was being bombarded by little ones wanting to play angry birds, eat donuts, and talk about haunted houses. Really though, I wasn't even able to hear President Uchtdorf's talk, but hey...who can resist a bunch of adorables? No one. Since I still need to review some talks and muse a little bit, I'm going to grace you with pictures of my life. Cool? Cool!

Relief Society Girls Night! Manicures.
Pizza. The best.
Just a bunch of smiling girls.
That is indeed a swimsuit bottom.
I love these girls!
A game of football with baby cousins.
Rough housing in the most gentle way possible.
Just the papa chillin with his nieces and nephews.
Krystal being the hardcore QB.
Tio Pancho with baby Jericho.
Best friends since one day at PAL camp.
Sitting and standing all at the same time. We are the coolest kids on the planet. Good luck in Armenia Elder Wood. May God be with you.

 Now For Some Instagrams

This is the window at the house across the street. The creepiest.
FHE Dessert Party. We have the best FHE families ever!
Fridate Dessert Pizza. Thank you David!
A new twist on an old classic. Black pumps, baby!
Are you voting?
Last but not least, sleeping during conference. Classic.
Did you have a wonderful weekend? What were some of your favorite conference talks? What are you anticipating this week?
