Monday Musing // Why do you instagram your vacation?

Monday, June 1, 2015

Just yesterday it hit me...people actually aspire to be instagram famous. It is the most true thing. People really want to be famous...on INSTAGRAM. And I think I've always thought this was weird. But while scrolling I saw half of the people I follow posting multiple pictures of their expensive clothes and multiple pictures of their babies on vacation in some luxurious place.

My main thought was: get off the phone and live your life. Put your credit card away and stop showing off.

And I probably sound like a jealous maniac. Maybe I am a jealous maniac, but as my friend Karlee said on twitter, "How do you have time tweet/IG your amazing vacation?"

And one more:

Kid: "Mommy, what do you do for a living?"
Mom: "Oh honey, I take pictures of myself in nice clothes and post them all over the internet."

Yeah you do and it's kind of getting ridiculous.

No, it really is.

Why are we so obsessed with this kind of culture? Why are we so obsessed with those likes...those little hearts just popping up on your notifications. Guys, I'm not perfect, I like likes, I like clothes, I like sharing what I'm wearing with people, but I was at the beach the other day and I posted one instagram and I didn't post any other ones because I wanted to really enjoy the moment.

ENJOY THE MOMENT!

What an idea, right? Hey, it's okay to take pictures, take a lot of pictures, but when you take it and show it to your friends that you are with to make sure everyone has a nice face, PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY. Don't be so attached to it and don't be so eager to post that photo to instagram to get your 200 plus likes. Just don't do it. DO it later.

There are actual girls who go and invest money into their blogs and their instagrams and their tweets.

Why are they doing this? I'm not completely sure.

Why do you have to tweet your whole vacation? Does it make you feel good to look at your screen everytime a notification comes up? Does it make you feel good to immediately post something and watch the love come flooding in. Does it make you feel good to snapchat you and your baby sleeping.

Do you really want those sponsorships? Do you really want people to comment "Goals" and "Perfect body" and "I am so jealous of everything about you." "I want to be you." I mean, hey thanks that's really nice of your, but BE YOU!

Be you and go outside and send time with your friends and still take pictures but don't be glued to your social platforms because you are more than a social media platform. You are more than a screen. You are more than a picture of you looking dang good. (Although I love those pictures, you are more than them.)

So there is that. Okay.

Being instagram famous isn't that cool. Because in the end, those pics will get lost in cyberspace and your wallet will be crying for help and beauty will fade. And that's my cynical view.

Ok, bye.

Friday Favorites: Choose happiness this weekend.

s o u r c e
Oh how true this statement is to me. I learn that every day. It's a truth that you need to remove toxic relationships from your life. For a long time...I put up with toxic people. I put up with their vicious remarks behind my back, their criticisms, and their fake personalities. I have always wanted to write a blog post about it...but I've never mustered up the strength or the courage. I think it might be best to just tuck it away and let it go. Sometimes you have to do that...and maybe eventually you talk about it, but right now I'm going to choose happiness, even when things get hard. This weekend, you should too. Choose happiness. Choose people that will make you feel the loveliest, the dreamiest, and the happiest.

1. Pizza math.

2. For a Saturday morning breakfast.

3. I can't get enough of Lupita's beauty. P.S. she's 31! Can you believe it? She's rockin' it!

4. Sweet little trinkets.  Great home decor inspo.

5. Are you guilty of these Instagram cliches? Even if you're not a FashionGrammer you are probably still guilty of some form of these.

6. This is too funny.

7. More Lupita love.  Oh and another one.  AND... last one...but not least at all.

8. I got Jenna Lyons. My life is complete and my journey to be the fashion director for J.Crew ain't so far away.

9. The sexiest album alive.

10. Talk about the dreamiest living space. Don't you ever just scour Pinterest to create your own living space? I think my dream space would be a little more minimal and modern with splashes of color.

11. A great analysis on Wes Anderson's character's traffic patterns.

12. Despite its less-than tasteful name...this is the most delicious website on the internet.  Can I please have The Mac Daddy!?

13. I forgot how much I love Cinemagraphs!

Like Damien Rice said, "Life goes easy on me...most of the time." And it's true. It does. Well, except for tonight, and it's really not bad. My FHE group was non-existent so I'm pretty much stuck writing this for all of you while everyone else is having a grand old time at the rec center. Ain't no thang.

Well let's talk about life. Let me give you some updates. Some pictures. Some laughs and some incredibly cheesy blogging.

First, I'm on Bloglovin' now so you may find me there.  Give my blog a look over or two. If you're reading this than you probably already do. So thanks for that. Thank you from the bottom of my juicy heart.

Second things second, summer is here. Yes, yes it is. And here are some pictures to show it! Enjoy! (Really, looking back I realize that none of these are summery at all. Oh well.)

1. Makenna, Kaitlyn and I took a trip over to one of our favorite places, Pizza Pie Cafe. The waiters are awesome the pizza is tasty and the dessert pizzas are even better. Plus, the laughter makes the experience.

2. I think I've started believing in myself.

3. Snow cones the size of your head. If that doesn't scream summer, I don't know what does.

4. We were smiling but secretly we were hating every bit of that Physical Science review.

5. What do I always say?

6. I am now a big believer in Double-Double's and In-N-Out fries. I guess that comes when you date a kiddo from Cali-forn-IA.

7. Ezra Koenig, ladies and gents. Ezra Koenig.

8. My favorite summer sweater. Yes, I said summer and sweater in the same sentence. So many S's.

9.  The Bang Gang. No I'm not sorry.

10. My dad is the best.

11. These two. And The Hobbit. With some Smaug in there.

12. You know, I wouldn't even mind having that Thai Peanut Pasta in my stomach right now. Guru's needs to be in my life way more than it is.

13. This quote made me cry in the middle of the library once.

14. Hairy Otter come to life!

15. The lights at The Riverwoods are my favorite.

16. Trees are my favorite. It was definitely a good time for trees when I took that picture.

17. Father's Day came around! We spent the day at a Ward BBQ playing baseball and eating delicious grub. My dad is the best. Really though, I love that man.

18. Along with being home meant Music and the Spoken work in the morning with him. It's one of our traditions.

19. This boy. He is my favorite.

20. Megan and I were the first to finish our burgers at the Red Robin girls night.

21. Mr. Ty brought me the best peony in the entire universe. Best boyfriend. Yes.

22. NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION!

23. Honor Night with David Betterman.

24. Dsu being the best papa.

25. And finally, Happy birthday Abuela! I love you so much and so does Tyler...and I know you love him. It's the greatest.

Life Lately...

Thursday, April 25, 2013

I just wanted to remind every body that the 1 year anniversary of this blog is on May 16th. Should I celebrate? Is there reason to? Do you guys even read this anymore? Truth is, I don't know what I'm going to do but I'm still glad I have had this blog around for so long and I can't wait to have it around for much longer.

In other important news, yesterday I completed all of my final exams and today Spring/Summer break started. It won't really be much of a break seeing as I'm training to be a Peer Mentor and then I will be taking one class for a couple of months, but STILL a new adventure begins! Even though it comes every year, it still is my favorite adventure most of all. Bring on the shorts, t-shirts, bare foot days, ice cream consumption, late late LATE nights, concerts, shopping, road trips, family vacation, more shopping, more laughs, and more SUN! Yes I can't wait.

Also, bring on the instagram pictures...

So in the life of Dani lately I've...

Taken loads of pictures of trees with really dark bark and lovely white blossoms. It's really too bad, because they start to smell awful after a week of looking just lovely and smelling like the Garden of Eden.

LOOK AT THOSE THINGS! AND THE SKY!
This is my most favorite of them all. No filter pretty ladies, no filter at all.
I had a finals week all wrapped up in Karly Jade, fancy pants, and a selfie of me missing my Daddy-O. (Plus the obligatory picture of notes that EVERY ONE takes...honey badger don't give a ----)

Karly. Miss Karly.

She made it into the Illustration BFA here at BYU. You go girl! You go, Glen Coco!

Oh notes. Notes. Notes.
This one time unknowingly, I took out a bowl from the cabinet and filled it with water. And used it as a cup.
My glasses in this picture. Top notch. I love my Miklis.
These pants. LOVE!

And that's all folks!

Did you just finish your college semester adventure? Let me know how it was. Also, what you are most excited for this Spring/Summer? Comment below and stay gold!

P.S. The formatting on this is SO lame. Sorry about the gajillion spaces.

Because I have nothing to wish for at the moment...

9.  Sometimes, my head gets stuck when I am putting my shirts on.

10. The formula for a perfect girls night: a pointless stroll through south end market, pizza, chocolate ice cream, and the cheesiest of movies.

11. My PR Group. I sure do love these geniuses.

12. Another holla to Robert Walz. He gives the best extra credit opportunities.

13. March Madness, baby.

14. Kaitlyn and Mak are losing hardcore.
