Playlist Thursday // Sort of...

Thursday, January 29, 2015

First, these two quotes:

//

And this one that I found on Twitter:

"We get so worried about being pretty. Let’s be pretty kind. Pretty funny. Pretty smart. Pretty strong.”

You could have a million followers. You could have the best hair. You could have all the riches in the world and all the people of the world flocking to be like you or get recognized by you, but if you aren't worth knowing...if you're not kind...if you're not doing good for the world, if you're not giving back...you're not worth anything. Even if you're well known.

Second, a mini playlist:

Funny thing about this song. I heard it while shopping at The Gap a few months ago, and I didn't have time to Shazam it, or I tried to and it didn't pick up. So I went months with it stuck in my head, but I wasn't able to remember the lyrics and I was just searching and searching. Well, today I found it on Spotify. I was just sampling a playlist, and yoo-hoo it was there. Fate, I tell you. Fate.

This guy is so much more than "Take Me To Church." His music is great. His voice is butter. His soul is rad.

GUYS. I don't even know why. I'm not sorry for loving this song. It makes me want to walk like three men are walking behind me. It's my jam right now. Pass judgments now if you please.

This song. I'm obsessed. I'm late on the bandwagon for this one. It's so groovy and like Bob Dylan said, "Either be groovy or leave, man." Plus, I LOVE how they performed it on Ellen.

This song is everywhere now. Like everywhere, but it's still great. This guy has one of the best "yell-sing" voices I've ever heard. So yeahhhhh. I don't know what else to say.

THIS VERSION. MAAAAJOR. I used to be a 90's rock hater, now I'm a big fan thanks to being an Abbott.

Playlist Thursday // Cerebral

Thursday, January 8, 2015

The other day Tyler told me that I like cerebral music. You know that moody stuff that really gets to your brain with dissonance and perfect harmonies at the perfect moments? Actually, I don't really know what that means, but it makes sense.

Funny thing is...I looked up cerebral in the dictionary and it said this:

Intellectual, rather than emotional or physical.

Psh...dictionary. All of my musical is emotional.

1. Misguided Ghosts by Paramore

2. Brothers on a Hotel Bed by Death Cab for Cutie

3. Summer Skin by Death Cab for Cutie

4. Waiting Game by Banks

5. Take Me to Church (Acoustic) by Hozier

6. Turning Page (Sleeping at Last cover) by Native Men

7. Stay With Me (Sam Smith Cover) by Florence Welch

Ugh, this is beautiful.

8. Love Me Harder by Ariana Grande

9. Sunrise by Norah Jones

10. Stay Alive by Jose Gonzalez

11. Thunder Clatter by Wild Cub

p h o t o

1. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Soundtrack

People, the whole thing is beyond beautiful. I want to watch this movie a thousand times because it is just so perfect.

"These blood red eyes, don't see so good. But what's worse is if they could, would I change my ways?"

It's a lonely road,  full of tired men, and you can see it in their faces. And you'll be home in spring. I can wait till then. I heard you're on a big train. And all this too shall pass...This loneliness won't last for long.  I wasn't there to take his place. I was ten thousand miles away. So when you hear my voice,
when you say my name...may it never give you pain."

"So show us a bird, flying high above. Life ain't worth living without the one you love. So fare thee well my honey, fare thee well."

"In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade. And he carries the reminders of ev'ry glove that laid him down, and cut him till he cried out in his anger and his shame,"I am leaving, I am leaving." But the fighter still remains. Lie la lie"

Playlist Thursday: Heartbreaker, Remixes, and Sun

Thursday, October 4, 2012

1. Tiptoe by Imagine Dragons

"From your slender dream see the morning dream. Sink into the soul, watch the water go. They won’t feel it like who can blame them?"

I will admit, a lot of people told me to listen to this song when Imagine Dragons' new album came out. I kinda didn't. I ignored it and didn't start listening to it until this week. Well I was missing out. I really want to see them in concert now, too bad I just missed the most recent one in SLC.

2. Warrior by Mark Foster, A-Trak, and Kimbra

"But I know I'm made for more!

What am I thinking? (If you're so sure it's rational)
While the worlds shrinking? (but that don't make it logical)
What am I thinking? (If you say I'm just an animal)
I feel like I'm sinking (you can't explain away the way I feel! )

And you're just pushing me down, pushing me down, pushing me down

(They tell you, 'Trust your head, be like men' but never feel like you're good enough)
You keep crushing me down, crushing me down, crushing me down
(They wanna take our light, make us fight, but never cry for the ones you love!)"

Kimbra and Mark Foster should collaborate more often. Also, I love it when she kicks the muchachos butt at the end. You go girl and keep singing like a soulful song bird.

3. How To Be a Heartbreaker by Marina and the Diamonds

"Rule number one, is that you gotta have fun. But baby when you're done, you gotta be the first to run."

This one's for the ladies in the swimming pool. You know what I mean.

4. Heartbeats (Jose Gonzalez cover) by Scala & Kolacny Brothers

"Ten days of perfect tunes
The colors, red and blue
We had a promise made
We were in love"

Pure beauty.

5.  Somebody That I Used to Know (KLAR and PF Remix by Gotye feat. Kimbra

I am pretty sure I am Gotye's only loyal fan now. Who cares if he's a one hit wonder. Seriously this song is great and this remix only makes it greater. Uh, 80's anyone? Beth/Rest anyone? Yes. Can I just listen to this song every single day? It's perfect for a night drive. It's amazing. Just listen, you won't be sorry.

6. Sun by Two Door Cinema Club

"I built a hive, became one with the bees. But we fell like rain. Got lost into the sea. If I don't know. The wind will carry me. So just hold tight."

Can I just say that Two Door Cinema Club is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands? They are. I am falling in love.

So that's all for today, but tomorrow I have some songs to feature in my favorites. I would add them right now, but it's currently 12:35 AM. It is time for bed. So stay tuned for more music tomorrow. Happy listening lovelies. Stay golden!

Playlist Thursday: Feelings

Thursday, September 27, 2012

Uh... so basically this whole week I listened to Gotye Live on Letterman, Bon Iver's concert at Radio City Music Hall, and Mumford & Sons new album Babel. Not even kidding, but I have a playlist of individual songs I've listened to as well. Enjoy and expect a whole playlist about Mumford's new album soon!

1. Swim Good by Frank Ocean

"I'm about to drive in the ocean. I'ma try to swim from something bigger than me. Kick off my shoes and swim good, and swim good. Take off this suit and swim good, and swim good, good."

Frank Ocean? Yes. Me gusta. Don't hate.

2. Climax by Usher

"We made a mess of what used to be love. So why do I care, I care at all?"

Uh, so stop blushing at the title of this song please! It's Usher what do you expect?  Thank you! When Valley Boy goes through a R&B music phase, you do too. It happens.

3. 1000 Words by Nobuo Uematsu

A little change of pace...I have always been a HUGE fan of the Final Fantasy games and the soundtracks. Listen and love.

4.  Autumn Leaves by Ed Sheeran

Do you ever wonder if the stars shine out for you?

Aw, yes another Ed Sheeran song. His voice is gold. Pure gold.

5.  Nothing Left to Say/ Rocks by Imagine Dragons

"My age has never made me wise, but I keep pushing on and on and on and on."

"Timber timber, we’re falling down. Let the forest hear us out."

Feelings. Lots and lots of feelings.

6. Begin Again by Taylor Swift

"But I've been spending the last eight months thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end."

Even more feelings. So many feelings. Favorite song by Taylor Swift right now. All-time favorite. I said this on my tumblr, it knocked "Ours" off of the top. It reminds me so much of her beginnings. I love songs like that remind you of good ol times, even if they are bittersweet love songs.

One more thing...

So this one time I asked a bunch of my close friends what their favorite songs were. I made a big list, and then....I left it at home when I moved away to college. So...if you would like to you should totally comment with your favorite songs. I love sharing music that my friends recommend to me. I am also thinking about making a "Dani's All-Time Favorite Songs" Playlist. What do you think? Can I do it? It might be slightly difficult. I have a lot of favorites. We'll see, we'll see.

What have you been listening to recently? What music inspires you? Comment below and have a lovely day.
