Outfit Posts and Weekend Updates

Monday, May 6, 2013

If I start posting an onslaught of outfit posts it's because I picked up my Polyvore account again, and sometimes it's a lot more fun making sets of  what I've been wearing than writing something inspirational or witty (not that I am inspirational or witty, you know). Also, I will probably be doing a lot of Life Lately Instagram filled posts because honestly, the weekend is celebrated every day during Spring semester. It's either people aren't taking class, or they only have one class to worry about, they finish all of their homework and work during the day so they can party all night. So the only thing to do is listen to tunes while driving in the car, play in parks, eat food, watch movies, laugh a lot, and snap a lot of pictures whilst slapping filters on to everything. That's how it goes. So I just wanted to let you know what was coming to Walking on Sunshine! I also wanted to mention that in 10 days my blog will be 1 year old! Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness.

Anyway, here's another outfit post. Enjoy.

P.S. This post was hard to do because all the stuff I was wearing was either a Factory/Outlet story item or given as a gift.

Outfit of the Day: 5.3.13

Dress: Gap (The one I actually have is from the Factory Outlet, it can been seen in this post. Sorta // Necklace: The one shown is similar to the one I was given. It was a gift. So I don't know where it is from sorry. Check out this assortment of pearl necklaces.  // Belt: Gap Factory Outlet. The one shown is similar and from ASOS. // Watch: Michael Kors // Shoes: Sam Edelman for American Eagle (The ones shown can be purchased here.)

Layers are fun...my titles are so original these days.

I have lived in Utah for most of my life. I know how the Winters are, but this Winter is something that has almost become unbearable. I dread going outside because my boogers freeze every time I breathe in, and it's like someone made a law not to shovel sidewalks but just to salt them with buckets of salt...so everyone is slipping around and it's like you have to trek over icy/salty mountains. Okay I exaggerate, but seriously, whatever happened to people shoveling?

So today I thought I would do a post on what I like for layering in this weather. Layering is almost essential for me. I need a lot, but then I also need to be able to take stuff off for the overheated classrooms, and that tends to happen a lot. Let's start with the basics.

1. Socks...cute ones preferably.
Ones that go to your knees and others that are crew. All are warm. All are good.
I like knee socks because they add an extra layer of warmth for your legs. Here are some cute crew socks that I swear by for winter.

1 // 2 // 3

American Eagle also has amazing knee socks.

2. Tights and Leggings
To wear under skirts (wool or some other bottom weight fabric). Or to wear under your favorite pair of jeans or pants.

I am obsessed with sparkle tights. I have some from American Eagle, but they don't sell them anymore. It's a shame because they were a way better price than these

2
You can layer your socks over your leggings and call it a warm and fuzzy day. For realz.

3. Button Up Shirts
Perfect tucked into jeans, skirts, and worn under sweaters and cardis.

 1 // 2 // 3 // 4

4. Sweaters/Cardigans
To pair with a button up. To put over a dress or skirt. To wear with a pair of jeans. To wear under a winter coat.

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

5. Long Sleeved Tee's
Gap is my favorite place for simple and sweet layering T's. Look at all the stripes and colors. They are SO soft too. If you don't believe me, go buy one and see for yourself.

I am a fan of DownEast Basics too.

If you want a little bit of luxury, Everlane is the place for you. ( If anyone is wondering what they can get me for my birthday in April...check out the whole website.)

And lastly, I own 4 of these Target shirts. They are pretty solid.

6. Boots/Hats/Scarves/Mittens/Gloves
You can't go wrong layering with any of these accessories.

Boots for the adventurer.

Boots for the girl who can't resist Sperry's OR J.Crew.

And for the girl who has always wanted a pair of Hunter Wellies.
I'll take mine in black and merlot please!

A hat with a Pom Pom is always a good choice.

1

Also, for those who like the laid back skater look.

2
Thick scarves are perfect for windy days.

Mittens make you feel like a kid again.
1
These are cute too. And if you don't like those, you won't be able to resist this pair.
And if you are looking for absolutely guaranteed warmth, look no further, Kyber Outerwear has what you need. Trust me.

And for the techies... try the latest trend, touch tech gloves.

Wishlist Wednesday: Black Friday Picks

Thursday, November 29, 2012

Sorry this is late. I had a wonderful evening which will be spoken of later. While Black Friday Shopping, I only picked up one thing that I really needed, but while I was shopping I picked some things that might help you with your gift shopping this year...and it so happens to be my Christmas Wishlist...the not so grown up kind.

1. AE Heritage Fleece Hoodie

1
I tried this on during Black Friday and it is probably the softest and most comfortable hoodie I have ever worn. Unfortunately, it wasn't on the best sale possible so I didn't get it. Seriously though, it has a sweater hood and the warmest fleece inside. If you are in the market for a new hoodie, add this to your Christmas list.

2.  Oxblood Coated Jeggings

2
I have this obsession for the oxblood trend right now. I didn't intend to go in, try these on, and fall in love, but I did. I tried them on with the hoodie and it was a match made in heaven. I love it when outfits come together like that. For being coated jeggings, they are incredibly comfortable, and they are a pretty normal color if you compare it to the neon jean trend. You could wear these for ages. Well not really..but you know what I mean.

3.  Karinska Tulle Skirt

3
The most perfect and beautiful tulle skirt I have seen in stores. It truly is lovely. Wear it on New Year's. Wear it on Valentine's Day. Or wear it just for fun.

4.

This dress has "Dani" written all over it. Especially the way they styled it in the second picture. I wouldn't mind this dress in Snapdragon either. Isn't Kate Spade delightful?

5. These Coats, 1, 2, and 3.

I am in love with the leather sleeve trend, so naturally, I found an affordable anorak for those wanting to spend a little more on a coat.

The second coat looks much better in navy blue. Taylor Swift inspired...don't you think?

I tried on the third coat in a camel color and it was very beautiful. The hardware really makes this coat.

6.  Heather Leather Watch in Sand from Fossil
5
A simple, yet stylish watch for those that want something special on their wrist this holiday season. Also, the price is way better than a $250 Michael Kors...sigh. Still wishin' for this one.

What did you find on Black Friday? Did you buy anything, or was it just a look and see kind of trip? What's on your not so grown up Christmas List this year?

5 Facts: Eagle Eyes, FNL, Swirl, Lovely Words, and A Laugh

Monday, October 29, 2012

I don't really have a musing for you today. If you want to see a more personal/ranty post, visit my tumblr. There you can get a scoop into the mind of Dani Ruiz when I don't have an adequate musing for you. Instead, I thought it would be cool to do a long lost 5 Facts for you today.

Fact #1: I developed a deep love for the TV show Friday Night Lights. Over the summer, Valley Boy (Or Jarett whatever you want to call him) got me hooked. I have never been so dedicated to a show. Really though. There is something about football, cute guys, and the most perfect couple in TV history. If you have Netflix, go watch it. Or maybe wait until Christmas Break if you're in college or you won't get anything done because it's just that good. So yes, fact #1 I have a very devoted relationship with Friday Night Lights. Matt Saracen and Luke Cafferty all the way people. All the way. No regrets.

Fact #2: Every time I have the choice between vanilla, chocolate, and swirl...I choose swirl. There is no other option. You get the best of both worlds without the creepy blonde wig or horrible singing voice. (I hope you all chuckled at my Hannah Montana reference.)

Fact #3: I got offered a position on American Eagle's Style Panel "Eagle Eyes." I still had to fill out an application, but unfortunately, it didn't work out. I am so grateful for the opportunity though, and I hope there will be more in the future. It would be wonderful to work for AE one day.

Fact #4: Sometimes I snort...when I laugh. It's incredibly embarrassing, but quite funny.

Fact #5: I am a sucker for beautiful words, beautiful quotes, the loveliest of words. So if you ever have anything lovely that you think I'd like, please share!

Wishlist Wednesday: The Usual

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Why are so many people surprised about the rain and snow? This is Utah...you should expect Utah weather. I like to think of it as a blessing. A blessing from Mother Nature, God, whatever you believe. We should be happy for seasons and glory in them, because there is a season for everything.

Well, I have another wishlist for you. It's pretty eclectic and it's nothing really new, but hey, that's okay. Enjoy.

Dark Denim Shirts

1
2
My poor light washed chambray shirt is taking a beating...I wear it way too much, plus I want something darker for fall and winter. Pair it with a sweater and you're great.

A Sequin and Owl Sweater Please!

1
 How about this whole outfit?
2
I can instagram a better photo of this sweater. This picture does not do it justice. It's the most beautiful sweater ever made...okay that's an exaggeration, but it is pretty darn beautiful.

A Varsity Jacket

1
I am obsessed with this right now. Obsessed I tell you.
I will also have this whole outfit.
Something about the sporty look intrigues me.

Shimmery Shoes

1

TOMS Gray Wool Desert Wedges

1

I am still rooting to get these. Rooting so hard. Nordstrom, get these asap.

This Watch
1
I will wish for you forever.

A Leather Cross-body Satchel

Any color would be nice. Seriously though, I need a new bag.

What is on your wishlist this week? This month? Stay warm. Stay golden. Have a wishful Wednesday!

Wishlist Wednesday: Something Warm and Cozy

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

The nights are getting darker, the  mornings are getting cooler. The mountains are turning shades of red, orange, and yellow. I brought my cardigan collection from home. Fall will be here in a matter of days people, and I cannot wait any longer. Get ready for the best wishlists so far, because fall means fashion season! Here we go...

1. ASOS Textured Knit Snood
1
I have decided that EVERYONE needs a snood for Fall and Winter.  This one from ASOS is perfect. It's affordable, it will keep your neck and chest warm, you can wear it with just about everything. Dress it up or dress it down and you have a statement piece that everyone will want. Really though, give me that whole outfit the model is wearing. I want that sweater too.

2. HATCH Collection: Maternity
2
So I'm not going to be pregnant any time soon, but I saw this post by Elaine Hearn and I got the baby bug...or the strong desire to wear these maternity clothes. The great thing about them though, is that you can wear them even if you're not pregnant, and seeing as I LOVE oversized clothing, this collection is perfect for me. I'll take the whole outfit, especially that coat and those leather leggings...and the beanie...yes the beanie.

3. All things Polka-Dot
3
These just went on sale at American Eagle. And this shirt would be perfect paired with a pretty cardigan, cargo skinnies, a scarf, or a black maxi. Polka dots are a pattern that will never go out of style. They are just like stripes..they even go with stripes!

4. Dark Printed Pants...Cords preferably.
4
Before you say anything nasty about Cordouroy, they are the best pants for fall. They are comfortable and they keep you warm. So give your jeggings or sweats a break and slip on a pair of these. The print is subtle, yet still unique enough to make everyone say,"HEY, I want those." They are a different take on the floral, printed, and colored jeans trend. You could wear these with every print and every shirt. I dare you to try it. Also, Madewell has the best styling, they make you want to buy the whole outfit. So I'll take the cords, plus the striped shirt and the flats. Who wouldn't?

What's on your Fall Wishlist? Comment below and if you want to see more of my favorite fall fashions, follow me on Pinterest! We can drool over beautiful clothes together!  Have a lovely day friends!

Wishlist Wednesday: Back to School, Part 2

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

IF YOU WANT TO SEE PART 1, CLICK HERE.
I feel like I'm always making promises to you guys about what I'm going to post. Like my healthy lifestyle/goals post? Yeah whatever happened to that? Oh and what about the Wishlist Wednesday post not on a Wednesday? Well you see, I really did intend to keep those promises, but there is something called moving away from home in a week and that has pretty much been on my mind. PLUS, I got most of my Back to School shopping done clothing wise (I have some other things from my first wishlist that I have my eyes on), so I thought that showing you what I got would make up for NOT posting another wishlist. Some of my wishes were granted so hopefully these pictures do the items justice. And hopefully you can forgive me for not keeping the promises I make. Trust issues? Yeah, I know.

Oh one more thing, I'm thinking about changing my font, because I noticed that a lot of the blogs I follow have the same one, and I thought maybe you'd like to see something different. I know I'd like to see something different. So if my font changes a ton in the next few days, forgive me.

AND one more one more thing...I apologize right now for the poor quality of the pictures. I am not cool like my brother, I don't have a Canon something something that costs $3,000.00. I had to work with what I had. So please don't hate me for the bad quality. I know, I'm a bad blogger.

Just kidding ONE MORE THING, also, be ready for a lot of stripes, and remember everything looks better on than on the hanger. Does that make sense? It should.

Anyway, ENJOY!
Dark Wash Skinny Jeans from...guess...WALMART! I know I was surprised when I found them. They are EXACTLY like Forever 21 skinny jeans. To keep them in good shape. Wash and then air dry.

A prime example that these look better on. The hanger is too small so it makes them look so frumpy. I got these at RUE 21. Unfortunately, they are not on the website, but I will link you to something similar. If you like the floral jean trend, go to your nearest Rue 21, JC Penney, or Target. They have a bunch of cute and inexpensive styles.

Another Rue 21 purchase that is not on the website. Mustard jeans were the first pair of colored skinnies that I wanted. It was like they were the most popular color when that trend started so I could never find any. I finally found some for $10?!?! Yes! BTW Rue 21 is having a BOGO for $10 deal right now. Here are some similar ones.

That is not a stain on the bottom. that's a dust fleck on my camera lense darn it. As if I didn't love mustard enough, I got a mustard cardigan, and I promise you it looks so much better on. I can't say it enough. This one is from the Gap Factory Outlet. I will probably wear it with just about everything. You can find similar ones here, here, and here.

Undershirts, tank tops in all colors and patterns. These are from The Gap, but you can get undershirts just about everywhere.

I have already worn this shirt and it is one of the most comfortable shirts I own. I love the palm tree screen print. My mom also loves this shirt because she says it reminds her of her home Puerto Rico. Man, wouldn't it be nice to grow up next to the beach? This shirt is by O'NEILL, but I got it at Ross: Dress for Less so I don't know if it will be online, but you can find similar ones here.

It's crooked...grr. Anyway, I got this at the Gap Factory Outlet, but here is a similar top also from The Gap.

I GOT A DENIM VEST! What a style step for me. Be prepared fall/winter sweaters...you will have a new friend. I got this at Ross: Dress for Less for really cheap. Way cheaper than this similar one.

C'est la Vie. LA VIE! // Billabong // Similar

I think this will look SO cute with the mustard cardigan. Ross: Dress for Less // Similar

I have already talked about this one. Got it for half price at Dillards! So worth it.

This cool shirt is reversible! WOO! I have not been able to find anything similar to it.

Another striped shirt. I know. AE // 1

I got this at a local boutique.

Ross: Dress for Less // Similar
Are you ready to go back to school? Bring on the Fall! At least I get to wear boots and cardigans. Right? Comment below and have a grand dippity day.
