Saturday Stuff // Things you must know...

Saturday, May 23, 2015

//

Well, these things aren't a MUST on your "things you should know list," but hey just thought I would enlighten you.

1 // I got a job! I'm officially an Anthropologie employee. I needed a job. I have always wanted a job in fashion/retail. During the interview I felt like it was a good fit for me, and it's going to be a learning experience, but it's a beautiful and creative environment and this store is BEYOND dreamy. Plus, I'm a huge sucker for Anthropologie. You all knew that. AND that's all I'm going to say about that. If you have questions, send me a text. We can talk about this.

2 // Oh and I forgot to mention that I can't get you a discount. Sorry.

3 //  I have this cold that will never go away. I swear it won't. It set up camp and is here to stay. It even brought marshmallows for a good roasting.

4 //  If you are looking for a great sale, check out Old Navy's Memorial day sale (I know, I know, shopping is not what memorial day is all about) but seriously, this sale is rad!

5 // Much to my dismay, California has been dreary and overcast (they call it June gloom) for the past three days. Talk about a kill joy. I got a swimsuit, can I please get some sun now? #firstworldproblems #iknow

6 // To narrow down my closet even more, I started a "What do I Wear" journal and I love it. Yes, it took some time and it's an extra step to my daily routine, but it's helping me with the whole quality over quantity thing. There are different ways of doing this, but...

Here's what I do:

1. Get a journal and pen (how easy is that) HOLLA AT MY BAREFOOT CONTESSA.

2. Get dressed.

3. Make sure your journal/paper/notebook/slashwhatever is nearby. Oh and that pen, don't forget the pen.

4. Write down what you're wearing on a list.

5. Repeat, and when you repeat an item or an outfit (ahem...my distressed J.Crew jeans that I got for $24) put a star or check mark or tally or whatever indicating that you have repeated this item. I actually just started making a master list of my closet and I make a checkmark on that list.

This probably sounds lame and tedious, but I did this with meal planning and it really helped me see what dishes I truly enjoy making and eating. At the end of the summer, I am going to make sure to donate the items I've never worn more than once (ahem that linen J.Crew shirt that you had to have because it was only $14) (Except now i'm going to go wear it because...)

7 // If I can hear you chewing your gum..I really don't like you.

8 // That's all for today.

Saturday Stuff // Unexpected Pieces

Saturday, February 7, 2015

//
I love items of clothing that seem totally ordinary but are totally extraordinary and wonderful.

Here are a few pieces that I've recently come across that have been that way for me.

1 // Sam Edelman Petty Bootie in Dark Brown Leather: I found these at TJ Maxx on a killer dealer. I had always wanted a pair of these beauties and I finally bit the bullet and bought them. I even got advice from one stylish lady, so you know it was a wise investment. No but really. These may look boring, but they are SO comfy and they are made with the most beautiful materials. Plus, the toe is a little dark and I just love that ombre look. I am positive these will patina nicely.

2 // J.Crew Toothpick Jean in Blacksmith Wash: These are being sent to me and I just can't wait. In my last Inspired post, I raved about black ripped-at-the-knee jeans. They are unexpected because the rips look street style cool instead of dingy and underdressed. It's the best way to do distressed denim if you're afraid.

3 // Hugo Guinness for J.Crew Human Being Tee in Linen: This t-shirt is so special. Linen is flattering and light weight. It makes me feel summery during this winter, but hey the weather makes me feel that way too. Still, it's unexpected for the handwriting and the one golden human being. People got a hoot out of this shirt when I wore it.

4 // Double Stripe Tee: Yes, yes, striped tees can be a dime a dozen these days (don't you just wish?). But this one is special. It's a special little gem, really. It's a perfect, "I'm super late I gotta throw something on" shirt. And let's say you forget to pull the hem from out of your jeans, don't worry, it looks great half-tucked.

Any unexpected clothing pieces in your closet? Comment below. Hope your weekend has been rad.

P.S. All opinions are my own, but every once in a while, a company sends me some of their clothes to try. I wear them and choose to write a post if I feel they are worth one. These pieces were.

Cardi Decisions: Wedding Style

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

FRIENDS, FAMILY, THOSE IN THE RANGE OF MY VOICE...or blog. Or whatever. I need YOUR help!

So I know this ultimately MY decision, but I have found 3 cardigans that I LOVE for putting over my dress, seeing as I'm getting married in December. I know that I will like anyone that I choose. It would be totally cool if you could voice your opinions or send me links to other cardigans in the comments below. I CHOOSE YOU! Here we go.

{Kate Spade Saturday // Wrap-it-up Sweater} I originally wanted a wrap cropped cardigan from Anthropologie, but I found out it was from 3 years ago...so I had to look for alternatives and Kate Spade did the trick. So lovely and clean and white. Embellished with a necklace or brooch. So good.
{Anthropologie // Ardennes Cardigan} This cardigan is ALMOST perfect. The sleeves aren't long enough and the buttons don't go all the way down. It's not too crucial, because this is beautiful.
{Anthropologie // Ruffle Coda Cardigan} A refreshing pop of color with a form flattering ruffle. Oh dear..which one do I choose?

So yes, please comment with your favorite. I don't know which one I'll choose yet, because I love each one...but I still want to know what you have to say. Thanks for being the best readers in the world. Stay gold.

5 Facts Saturday

Saturday, July 28, 2012

1. I've always wanted to learn how to play the banjo. It seems like such a cool instrument. It's not a very common one that people know how to play either, so you could really impress someone with your banjo skills. Heck, I want to impress someone with my banjo skills.

2. One day, I want to own a clothing store that only sells cardigans, skirts, dresses, and pretty shoes.

3. Favorite Book: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Saturday Morning Friday Favorites

Saturday, July 28, 2012

Hello friends! Like I said, I was SUPER busy yesterday so I wasn't able to make a Friday Faves post. BUT I kept my promise and I am writing one this fine mornin' as magpies screech outside my window.

Favorite #1: Men that look like this...

Favorite #2: The London 2012 Summer Olympics
The whole world comes together to sweat and a have a good time. We all cheer each other on and there is a spirit of honor and love for our abilities and the people we share them with. I think we actually come together and respect one another for once. I love the olympics.

Favorite #3: My new pumped up kicks
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lnkijg6oB51qzc9a4o1_1280.jpg
Vans // Hadley

The last pair of sneakers I ever bought were white converse. Then I went on a no sneaker kind of stage...but then I realized I needed some because my converse were pretty hashed. So I went a little out there and bought some high tops. I know they seem a little hip/hop, gangster, punk but I wouldn't be sticking to my style if I didn't buy something a little different and made them my own. Let me tell you though, they were on sale and they look good. Plus, Vans are pretty comfy and durable. Right now malls are having summer clearance sales, so if you are looking for back to school clothes or shoes...go take advantage of the deals.

Favorite #4: Maxi Dresses and Maxi Cardis

bought a looooooooooooong cardi today. LOVE it.

Favorite #5: Schlotzky's Sandwiches
Best thing I ate all week.

Favorite #6: REAL SALT LAKE Game with the Family
Great seats and the whole family was there. Also, we won!

Favorite #7: Orange/Coral Nails
Coral ombre nails
How I wore my nails this whole week.
Favorite #8: Applying for a Job
Who knows if I'll get the job, but I put a lot of work into my application, and I'm just crossing my fingers. I really need a job for this coming semester. Wish me luck friends.

Favorite #9: Sh*t Fashion Girls Say
(Um...so perfect)

Have any favorites this week? Comment below? Are you watching the Olympics!?! What is your favorite event!?

Have a safe and happy weekend everybody!

YOU'RE ALL MY FAVORITE!

5 Facts Saturday: Top 5 Favorite Disney movies

Saturday, July 7, 2012

Fact #1: My all-time favorite Disney movie is Pocahontas. I know, I know, the story is not accurate in any way, but seriously who cares when it has the best love story, and most beautiful orchestration ever? I was in Yellowstone this past week, and it always gets me in a Pocahontas mood. My siblings and I sing "Just Around the Riverbend", and "Colors of the Wind" when we are driving through the park. I love it. I will also include this, the last minute and 30 seconds of that movie makes me cry like a little baby. Seriously I cry so much when I watch that movie.

Fact #2: My second favorite you ask? The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It is definitely one of Disney's darker stories, but the music is so beautiful and the story is just so captivating. It does have mature themes in it for sure, but I didn't really understand them as a child.  I mean Frollo is the ultimate creeper, but the story of Quasimodo is really quite beautiful and inspiring. Favorite song: "Out There" (so inspiring it makes you want to cry, you live your dream Quasi!) Favorite Moment: When Quasimodo climbs to the top with the dying Esmeralda in his arms and cries "SANCTUARY!" as he lifts her above his head "tarzan" style. It's just so powerful. If you don't like the storyline, just listen to the music. It makes the movie. And then in the end you really do figure out "who is the monster and who is the man?"

Fact #3: Third favorite. The Lion King of course. I am crying the first 5 minutes into the movie. The Circle of Life gets me every time. If you didn't notice already, I cry a lot when it comes to Disney movies. It's a really symbolic movie. It is a reminder that we must always remember who we are, and never forget our purpose in life. Lions have a way of teaching you that.

Fact #4: Mulan is my fourth favorite. Mulan is just a powerful heroine. She really doesn't quit with the awesomeness. She has a good heart and she is always wanting to do the right thing, even when people look down on her for it. She just wants to be who she is truly meant to be.  She saves China for heavens sake! Do you know how many people there are to save in China? Yeah a lot. You go girl!

Fact #5: Final favorite Disney movie on my Top 5? Beauty and the Beast. Who could ever learn to love a beast? Belle, of course! It's a story that teaches you to love someone for their heart, soul, personality, and character. Not their looks. I also love the music and the fact that Belle is a bookworm.

I love all Disney movies so be sure to share with me your favorites! Have a great weekend everybody. Be safe. Eat good food. Stay golden!

5 Facts Saturdays

Saturday, June 16, 2012

Originally, I was supposed to do a post on my trip to Washington DC, but I decided there will be plenty of times to do posts on DC. There will also be plenty of time to tell you about my "healthy lifestyle goals" that I was telling you about. I think I should put a little more though into those posts, so I'm going to wait a little bit. Instead, I came up with an idea for Saturday posts. It's nothing that you haven't seen before on other blogs, but I think it will be a fun way for ya'll to get to know me better. So today marks the start of 5 facts Saturday. I will share 5 facts with you, they can be fun, random, sad, quirky, interesting, crazy, boring, anything. If you want to know something about me (not that you really do)  comment below with a question OR message me at dellaruiz13@gmail.com.

Fact #1: I LOVE chips and salsa, pizza, and white chocolate macadamia nut Clif Bars. I could live off of those 3 foods. They are probably the least healthy food options in American but...I love them. I will eat them every chance I get.

Fact #2: I am studying Family and Consumer Science Education and I am actually thinking about minoring in communications or something like that. We will see. All I know is that it is the perfect major for me. Food, Family, Children, Teaching, Fashion, Interior Design, who could ask for more?

Fact #3: I love stars. Space, the universe, galaxies, it's all so magnificent to me. Let's go star gazing.

Fact #4: My favorite city in the United States is Washington DC, MD. Especially during the 4th of July. Oh man it is magical.

Fact #5: Favorite flowers: Poppies, Ranunculus, Peonies, and Garden Roses.

Now I want to know about you? Have you any random facts about yourself for me? Comment please!

Have a nice and happy weekend everybody. Stay cool. Be safe. Have fun.

Favorites: Saturday Edition

Saturday, June 2, 2012

There is a feeling that overcomes you after a day at the local swimming pool. After a day of sitting in the sun, reading a good book, eating pizza, laughing, and of course swimming in cool water, you get home and your body just shuts down. The sunburn settles in, the tan forms, and you become a waterlogged, tired, yet satisfied human being. You take a shower to wash off the chlorine, you come out smelling like coconuts and palm trees. You pull on an oversized t-shirt and shorts and you call it a day. You are too tired to eat food, too tired to go hang out with friends, too tired to write a Friday Favorites post on your blog. So you wake up the next morning and decide that you can't leave your bloggin' friends hanging you have to write a post. So you do it. That's what I'm doing right now. I'm bringing you my Favorites of the week on Saturday. Here we go.

1. Swim day with my sister Krystal. We had a good time. It was June 1st, basically the first day of summer! We had to go swimming. We had cute new swimsuits. When you have a cute swimsuit you just want to go try it out in a swimming pool. That's how we roll. Speaking of swimsuits...this leads me right into my next favorite/disappointment.

2. My swimsuit. It was a favorite when I got it this week. It was pretty swanky. Neon Pink, 40's style one piece, flirty skirt and ruching. It was adorable! Until...I got out of the pool. The neon pink had faded into a pinky/purplish, dull pepto bismol color. NOT cute anymore. The neon color was bright and flattering. This new shade made me look sick. My swimsuit had faded and my tiredness turned into crankiness in a matter of 5 seconds. Right after I publish this post, I am going to go return it. Word to the wise, don't buy an expensive swimsuit that's a fabulous color. It disappoints you.

3. Pizza! Homemade, store bought, take out. I love pizza. My mom makes some pretty tasty homemade pizza. It has to be one of my favorite foods. What are some of your favorite foods? Have you had anything especially tasty this week? Comment below!

4. Roots by Alex Haley
899 pages of history, slavery, and American saga.

5. My friends, oh how I love them.

6. Dad
My dad is one of the greatest people I know. He is full of love and compassion. He works very hard and sometimes doesn't get the credit he deserves. He always says the right thing right when you need it. He is the best. I love him.

7. Frankie, my older brother. This summer we have grown closer and it has been really wonderful to talk to him and get to know him. I love him too.

That's all for the favorites today friends. Make sure to comment below with your favorites. Have an awesome weekend. Eat good food, surround yourself with good people, and since summer has started, please be safe.

OOTD #1

Outfit of the Day!

Shirt: It's my mom's and she got it from Express last Christmas.
Pants: American Eagle. They are the Jeggings in neon coral.

You can't see my shoes but they are just simple black ballet flats with a gold bow.

My necklace was a gift from my dad. It is Mark Poulin's necklace in Little Orbit Girl.

Hope you all have a beautiful weekend. I will be back on Monday with a little musing about my life. Goodnight moon!

Marathon Morning

Saturday, May 19, 2012

My parents= AWESOME! This morning they ran our city's big half marathon. Holy cow they are beasts. Unfortunately I couldn't get any great photos of them. You can't just ask them to stop and pose for a picture. I did get some photos of some awesome moments. The whole marathon spirit makes me want to go out there and be a part of the running community. I think that might be a summer goal...plus some marathon runners are really good looking. There is this excitement and everyone is cheering everybody on. It reminds me of a mini olympics. Speaking of which, I am so excited for the London 2012 Summer olympics it isn't even funny. Anyway, yes I want to start running again. Little by little. Well I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. Stay happy, eat good food, and enjoy the moments I captured. Again, sorry for the bad pictures.

The guy in the orange shirt and blue hat is my Daddy-O. He has run 3 half marathons. What a beast. That's 1 and a half marathons.
That's my mom. She is a trooper.
Brother and Sister. What cuties.
Sister and me.
This man pushed him the WHOLE half marathon. You should have heard the cheers.
A little boy running with his momma.
Two little guys booking it to the finish line.
This is my favorite. The lady was celebrating and dancing because she was almost there. I loved the happiness that was exuding from her. We should all be that positive.

Again, happy weekend everyone! See you on Monday!
