Wishlist Wednesday // Summer Suits Edition

Wednesday, July 2, 2014

Let me tell you readers something...there is nothing better than a sharp dressed man, but you know, it's really hard to get dressed up in a suit during the summer heat. It's 97 degreees every single day here in Utah, and guess what? There are weddings every day. Every single day a wedding is happening in this state.

I have had several friends get married this summer and each bride has complained about how their fiancees don't want to go suit shopping because it's SO hot. Well have no fear young gents and grooms, because SUMMER SUITS exist!

Summer suits in cotton, linen, even chambray! Be still my heart, there are suits that come in chambray, and today I am showing you some awesome and beautifully made suits from the brand Bonobos.

( Linen people, linen is breathable and perfect for summer. And so is chambray. Okay, I'm done blubbering about chambray. Moving right along. )

Bonobos provided me with the images above from their Spring/Summer 2014 suit line. Aren't they luscious? Like I said, I am digging the chambray. I also love the fact that these beauties can be worn while walking in St. Marco's Square in Venice, because you never know when that might happen, right? But really, you can wear these in that heavy, humid heat. It's rad! Anyway, I'm really feeling the vibe, and I totally want Tyler to wear one of these. I could get him to wear a suit more, and I wouldn't mind that one bit. We bought him a wool suit for our wedding in December, but he can't wear it now, because it's so hot. Well, Bonobos made sure to make these suits in fabrics perfect for summer. I just love it. I'm repeating myself, I know, but it's just so great.

So here are some things you should know about fit before you buy a suit; if the suit doesn't fit, the style, fabric, or occasion it's for won't even matter. Plus, you know you want to get one for your man.

Simple Suit Tips for Finding the Right Fit by Dwight Fenton, Bonobos VP of Design
  1. Fit is the most important detail for a suit. Marry that with classic color options and quality fabric, and you have a great looking, versatile suit for ever occasion.
  2. Fit starts with the shoulders: The jacket should grab your shoulders snuggly but not be overly tight. If the shoulders fit, pretty much anything else can be adjusted.
  3. Length matters: To determine the appropriate length, you should be able to cup the bottom of the suit with your arms by your side.
  4. Show some shirt (YES): A flexible but general rule of thumb is to have the quarter-inch of your shirt cuff showing. If you're wearing a heavier cuff, like a French cuff, you may want to show a little more.

I know that this was very helpful for me. I'm a big believer in knowing what fits the best for your body and rocking your own personal style, so I am all about finding formal wear that is not only comfortable, but classic. If you are going to invest in a suit, you better wear it.  A guy can never go wrong with a suit, so make sure to check out Bonobos line of summer suits for that upcoming summer wedding, party, or event.

My personal favorites from the collection here, here and here

Don't you just want one already?

Let me tell you something about the first month of marriage.

You experiment a lot with new recipes and if you're obsessive like me...none of them turn out like you want them too. But if you are a hungry boy like Tyler they are all like eating Costa Vida and Marie Calendar's every day.

You learn a lot about the birds and bees. And it's fun. And different. And awesome.

You write a lot of thank you cards and you make a goal that you will have them out before the 1st month is over.

You learn to sleep again.

You don't sleep at all.

You laugh a lot.

You cry some.

You hug and cuddle and it's rad.

You buy  A LOT of things you didn't get on your registry.

You spend a lot on groceries.

You make a budget, fail, make it again, and get it right.

You worry about money and the future.

You remind yourself that everyone goes through this and it's going to be okay.

You fall in love every day.

You remember all the advice everyone gave you and you feel bad for not living all of it, but then you remember that you are trying the best you can and you resolve to try again tomorrow.

You look at wedding photos and Oooh and Ahhh over how dreamy the day was.

You get annoyed with engaged couples who post their gushy love pictures all over instagram and Facebook...but you remember that you were the same way.

You fall in love with your wedding all over again.

You dream of California during class, during lunch, during dinner, during work, during every moment you are awake.

You sometimes get discouraged because of people and their expectations of you.

But you move on. And you remember what's important.

And it's all good. It's lovely. It's happy. It's fun. It's an adventure.

And it's all worth it.

Oh my words!

I can write a blog post, because this girl just submitted her last major assignment that has been giving her heart palpitations and random pee attacks for days. And when I say pee attacks, you know exactly what I mean. Like seriously anxiety back off. Way off.

So yes, finals. Here we go. Here I come. I'm so ready. Not even funny. And then I'm off. I'm off to get married in Newport Beach, but not on the beach. In the temple. Yeah, yeah and yeah.

SO I was thinking...

Even though New Years isn't until like 3 weeks away, I have already thought about a blog resolution. I am going to use way more photos and since next semester I am talking a digital publishing class, I'm going to make them look real nice. The pictures and the blog. I'm really going to do it guys, because I seriously womp at getting pictures put up on this blog. It happens.

So there's that resolution and another one? Well I would like to get all of Tyler's gifts bought today, and I would like to by my sister's gift soon. And all the while it would be nice if a black sweater or black something made it in the mix. I'm really feeling black right now.

And since it's only fitting, a finals playlist is in order, because I'm pretty sure I do one of these every finals. Enjoy! And stay gold.

My dearest friends,

Just last night...I actually yearned to write a blog post. I actually felt this burning desire to do it RIGHT AWAY. Oh how this blog has been better to me than I ever thought it would be. It has been the perfect outlet of expression and happiness. Blog sap!?! Of course.

So this was supposed to be posted yesterday, but as I was walking up to campus with the sky so blue, and the mountains so orange and the leafs so yellow and crunchy, I was thinking what a wonderful world! What a beautiful place. What a beautiful life. Life is good and everything will work out.

Sure Tyler and I need to start paying a huge sum of money for Rent...but we can find someone to buy my contract. A way will be provided. How could there not be a way? There will be someone who wants it. It will all work out. I just have to keep saying it because sometimes I don't believe it and sometimes I get incredibly discouraged and unhappy about how things are going...but I have to remain happy and positive and kind. Even when I don't want to be.

Friday Favorites on a Saturday

I'm already slacking. I already used this title once before. Oh well. Have a wonderful, safe, and happy weekend. Stay gold.

1. Maggie Sottero

2. For the Home.

3. Ei-O!

4. Bastille Goes Miley!

5. Bows! For a wedding perhaps?

6. The prettiest.

7. These shoes were made for walking. Comfortable walking, that is.

8. As the Paula Dean meme once said, "Butter is everything, B!"

9. Lonesome Dreams. Talk about a music video.

10.  Dreamy ankle straps.

11. *Drool*

12. I wasn't a veil girl, but now I am.

13.  Not a link, but yesterday I realized something...as a soon to be bride, I have gotten caught up in doing things that people expect me to do. Planning a wedding around other people and not myself or Tyler. Yesterday I realized that I really had to stop doing that. I had to stop selling my wedding short. I had to stop worrying about what everyone else thought. I had to stop worrying what everyone thought about my dress and if I changed up my aesthetic a bit. It's my wedding...and I really don't care if you don't like it. Or if you think everyone has my dress or if it's not what I originally wanted. It's my perfectly special day. It's my sealing and that is the most important part. It is going to be perfect and beautiful to me and that is what matters. Is anyone else with me on this?

I'm getting married!

YEAH!

Okay that's all for today.

Stay gold.

Wedding Wednesday!

Wednesday, October 2, 2013

Don't you mean wishlist wednesday? Well yeah! But hey, for the 4 billionth time, I'm getting married so I figured...hey...why not make wishlist wedding wednesday posts. But then I thought...wait what if someone takes your idea and gets married before you do? But then I thought again...hey imitation is the best form of flattery so why the heck not!? Let's go for it!

First things first, Tyler reads this blog so I figured to stay traditional...I won't be talking about the wedding dress, but that doesn't mean I can't talk about SHOES and ACCESSORIES! So that's what I'm going to feature today. I haven't bought these things yet, but the following are an idea of what I want to wear on my wedding day and to the reception. Enjoy! And feel free to share your thoughts and comments.

The Shoes

To preface these are our colors..
The Red/Scarlet and mint are meant to be accent colors and I just felt like it was the perfect mix of nautical, classic, and modern. Tyler said he LOVED it the first time he saw it so I think it was a perfect fit. Plus, his shirt colors consist of blue and red so it fits his personality ever so nicely.

Anyway, weren't we talking about shoes? Yes! So as an avid Cup of Jo follower, I have heard Joanna rave about Jeffery Campbell's 'Regina' Wedge and how comfortable and absolutely adorable they are...which I completely agree on the adorable part. We'll see about comfort. They are just my style. And so while I was browsing for wedding shoes these came to my mind first and...

THEY COME IN MINT GREEN!

Behold...

1 // Oh my the dreamiest! And the price isn't bad at all. I have heard of girls getting $500-$1,000 Jimmy Choos. Be still my heart.

The Baubles and Arm Party

Around the neck...

2 // Confession: I am a sucker for the ampersand symbol. Just think about it Dani & Tyler. *swoon*
3 // "I do"
4 // Mrs. Abbott? I think yes. Cheesy? I think yes, also.

 A stack of gold...

I really want to have an arm party because I have seen them all over the wedding sights these days and I think it would just be lovely over the and under the cardigan I'll be wearing. What do you think?
5 // This little beauty has been on my wishlist forever. It's the actual J.Crew collection version NOT the factory version, but the factory version would suit me just fine if it just fit my wrist. That price though...oh no. Sigh. Looking dupes!
6 // Cue the confetti! Cut the cake! Because happily ever after starts NOW!
7 // THIS.
8 // Oh come on Kate Spade! This is adorable.
9 // A ring to match? Yes, please!

Do you have any dreamy wedding ideas? What did you wear on your wedding day as shoes and accessories? Comment below...and like always....

Stay gold.

It was a Tuesday, the busiest Tuesday of my life actually. I had to prepare to finish the last parts of my Public Relations application at the end of the week and on top of that, I had homework and I had to think about what I was going to make for dinner. When you get stressed like I do...it seems like quite the burden to bear. Tyler was as usual a sight for sore eyes, the light of my day, the cheese to my macaroni, the calm to my storm as usual on days like Tuesday. So on our walk home, we talked about the weather, and we talked about how tired I was, and we talked about how tired he was, and we talked about the future, and we talked about life, and food and SLAB pizza and the NBA and maybe some music and a zombie apocalypse, and all the while I knew that he had something up his sleeve, because the previous weekend he had asked my dad for my hand in marriage and I knew it was coming but I didn't expect it to be on the busiest Tuesday of my life but it was..and if you didn't get it all ready...this post is going to be about my engagement to Ty Ty, Ty Abbo, Super T, Flop..whatever you want to call him. Tyler is just fine, too.

So yes after talking and talking and talking like we always do on our walk home, we flopped onto the couch and our tummies growled and we conversed with my roommate and we murmured about the amount of homework we had to do...and then we found ourselves in the same predicament, what are we going to have for dinner? You see, this wouldn't be such a predicament if Tyler and I weren't doing this thing where we are trying to have home cooked meals, not only because they are better for you, but because they are really nice to your wallet. But as we were sitting there, I straight up said I didn't want to make it, because bless his heart as much as he tries to help me in the kitchen, I usually end up making the most of the meal (except for tonight...as I write this I am so pumped, Ty is making breakfast burritos...YES!) So I looked in my wallet, found a 20 dollar bill, grabbed a frisbee, grabbed Tyler's hand and it was down the street we go to Stan's Diner for a greasy burger, onion rings, a sub-par oreo shake and a game of Frisbee at the park afterward. Well then Tyler was acting all suspicious because he was trying to get me not to eat a shake because he wanted to get frozen yogurt that night. Oh and then he decided that we would just do our walk that was meant for Wednesday, because we have this exercise and running routine and usually on Tuesdays we run two miles and so it was unusual because he NEVER skips out on working out...and so I was pretty darn happy because he was going so easy today and I didn't mind it because my face was stuffed with the perfect mix between crispy and tender onion rings and pastrami burger. So after good grub, it was to the park and to a game of pretty great disc toss. Ty is really good at throwing it..it always catches the wind just right, spins just right, and flies into my hand just right. Mine on the other hand wobble and spin and catch the wind right when it's blowing the opposite direction and Tyler often has to run helter skelter to get it in his palm. But it was fun. And tiring. And beautiful. And the park was meant for Tyler and I because the sun always hits the leaves on the low hanging branches just right and the wind is always nice and we enjoy looking at the graying sky, even if the clouds are all clumped together and the blue is disappearing along with the sun. It was lovely, but we had to face the realities and go back home and do homework.

So now, you're probably telling me to get to the engagement story already. I'm getting there. I'm getting there! I promise.

Once home, we flopped on the couch again and pulled out the books and computers. My mom had just texted me about wedding dresses...she loves to plan ahead. And so instead of doing homework, you know what I was doing...worrying about that instead of the reading response I had to write. Tyler is a great student...he always does his homework right away and that's what he was doing. Well out of the blue, though not unusual Tyler tells me he has to go talk to his best friend Drew and so he goes. And he's gone for like 30 minutes and I need to go pee so I do because for some reason I felt like I had to wait for him to come back before I could go to the bathroom. So I do my business and shortly after, there's this huge knock on the door and I go get it and in burst Drew, Jake and Myles (Ty's roommates) they were all dressed up like mobsters, speaking extremely loud and incredibly close and they told me that I had to go brush my teeth and get ready because it was going to be  long night. Then they blindfolded me and we somehow got down the stairs to my apartment complex alive and I was driven to 7-11 to get slurpees (I later learned that it was to buy time for Tyler, but I thought it was so cute because Tyler and I often go there to get slurpees.) So yes, once they kidnapped me, I knew Tyler was going to propose. I just didn't know it would be that night. I was pretty sure it was going to be at the end of the week or the week after that. So after slurpees and a few pics, I was blindfolded again, put in the car and we drove and drove and drove. The drive consisted of "our playlist" playing on the radio and three boys saying "blarp" 50 thousand times, me crying, and laughing, and all that stuff that comes with emotional girls that don't know where they are going but do know that at the end of the journey they will see their love down on one knee.

Finally, we got to our destination. I was led down this hill and then the captors left me alone. And suddenly, there he was. Tyler Jordan. I couldn't see him, but he was in front of me...and he took off the blindfold and I broke into sobs because I saw where we were. The reservoir...where we had our first date with the wildflower meadow and all and the water lightly lapping on the rocks...the sky was gray and the air was breezy and the trees rustled so perfectly. And there he was, looking at me with those eyes. Those green GREEN eyes full of light and life and love. And we kissed and I blubbered and he got down on one knee and I blubbered some more and he asked me. He did. He just did it. And I cried. So much and I think I said totally or of course or yes or something. I know I agreed because the ring is on my finger and the pictures have been taken (Spencer was there...thank you brother! I love you!) And then I remember kissing Tyler again and giving my kidnappers so many hugs and just staring at the ring and I not believing it was happening, but feeling so overjoyed because it was the next step that I wanted. Then we drove to Farr's Fresh for frozen yogurt and much to my surprise there was EVERYONE! All of my roommates and all of our friends. And I cried some more, but I was so happy. SO so so so SO happy. So happy to be engaged to my best friend, my partner in adventure, my happiness, my light, my life, my home, my heart, my joy, my laughter, my golden ever so golden boy.

And so it is my friends...

Tyler and I are engaged. Here's to a new adventure.

Stay gold.

P.S. Pictures you ask? Since most of my readers follow me on Facebook...I have decided to leave them there to keep our lives still somewhat private. Thank you!

P.P.S. The most terrific Tuesday of my life.

Friday Favorites: The Loveliest of Things

Thursday, December 20, 2012

If you haven't noticed, I really like the word lovely. And I like lovely things. I love them. Really. This week I was able to discover many lovely things and I can't wait to share them with you.

1.  I want Engagement // Wedding photos JUST like this. Everything is so simple and classy. Her dress is beautiful and they are a beautiful couple. Look at those smiles? It doesn't get better than that.  One day, one day.

2. Stendig 2013 Calendar
Mommy bloggers always have to post the best last minute gift guides. Thank you Sydney. Maybe Santa can slip it under the tree. Who could say no to a piece of art?

3. DeYarmond Edison
Bon Iver broke up and it always hurts me to know that there won't be any new music or lovely melodies coming from Justin Vernon's mouth anytime soon, but on tumblr a follower posted a song by DeYarmond Edison. I listened and noticed that it was indeed Justin Vernon. It's not anything new, in fact it's fairly old. 2005 old, but the music is still beautiful and quite different from the Bon Iver stuff. I love it. So enjoy this song. It's my favorite one.

P.S. I really love it when artists have hidden bands that you never know about but end up discovering and lovely.

4. We Bought a Zoo soundtrack.
Thank you Karly...I hope your heart is healed, but I really appreciate that you were listening to this the other day. It reminded me of my love for the music and the movie. Listen and love.

5. Penelope, Meet Me in St. Louis, White Christmas, Home Alone, and A Christmas Carol (every version)
The movies that my family and I have watched so far this break. There are many more to come. I can't wait for It's a Wonderful Life, Moonrise Kingdom, and The Dark Knight Rises.

6. James and Aubrey
Another wedding that I just never get tired of looking at. James has a blog...James is the girl. I was pleasantly surprised. She couldn't get anymore awesome. The Bleubird Blog is now a FAVORITE! She has 4 kids and the most beautiful wedding photos. You can find them here and here. Get ready to "ooh and ahh" at its loveliness.

What lovely things have  you discovered this week? I hope you have a lovely weekend. Stay gold...

OH and let me not forget. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

P.S. maybe i'll post a little bit. stay tuned.

Friday Favorites Are in Order...

Friday, October 12, 2012

Well it's Friday friends. Aren't we happy? Isn't this the best day of the week? Yes! Well here are some favorites that I would like to share.

1. Canoe Weddings...or Elopements

Image courtesy of Cup of Jo and Joe Zander Photography

Remember how last week I shared a bunch of links to wedding pictures that made me want to get married in the fall? Well I'm still on that kick.

Oh please just read the whole story, marvel at the beautiful photos. I want a lumber jack checkered dress with a tailored blazer and great boots. Oh and her belt? *drooling* I want to spend the night at a lakeside cabin. I want to be this bride...well without the elopement, I want people there, but seriously she seems so down to earth. I want S'mores at my wedding! I love it. It's incredibly lovely!

2. Also, look at these colorful wedding dresses!

I know, you might be thinking, "Dani, you've got the wedding fever." And I'm going to say, "Yeah that's okay because I'm a college silly student and it happens."

Anyway ladies, if you don't want to remain in white the whole evening, or if you are going for the not so traditional look , opt for a colorful wedding/reception dress. Who could resist?

3. The Story of Pines from Alison Sudol AKA "A Fine Frenzy"

"And pine she did."

"And so he stayed."

Please watch.

4.  Beautiful Families

Me in a dream. One day...one day.
5. White Barn French Baguette Candle

It has the best buttery sweet scent when it burns. I also mix it with the White Barn Nutmeg and Spice candle..it smells like heaven. Pure heaven. Okay that's an exaggeration, but seriously just go and get these candles now and try it.

6. Late Nights with friends
Oh nights like last night are what I really missed about college. I love that we can have deep conversations and we can laugh, argue, and cry together. I'm so glad that we have to get froyo afterwards, because that's just how we roll. I love the people here. I am so grateful for these blessings.

7.  Rain on the Fall covered mountains.
What a perfect day it was.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. How will you spend it? I will be writing papers...and screaming at Riley Nelson from the 15th row. What were your favorites this week? Stay golden and stay safe! See you Monday!

Friday Favorites

Friday, August 10, 2012

1. A healing mouth.
I was able to bite into a burger and actually chew it. It was the best thing in the entire world. The bruising is going down, and I just finished my antibiotic...SO NO MORE NAUSEA ATTACKS!

2. Project Runway
My favorite show. Ever. More than ANTM. More than Friday Night Lights...okay maybe not, but I love that show. The new season is kinda bugging me though. Have any of you been watching it? What do you think of the designers? Do you think they are talented? Me? Not so much. I think the people with the most promise are Dmitry, Sonjia, and Ven.

3. Back to School Shopping
It can be such a pain, especially when you're looking for deals, but when you do find great deals it's so much fun. I love shopping. It's not good, but I love shopping. I have picked up some cute stuff if I do say so myself.

4. FLORAL PANTS
It may look like my feet are dirty, but I promise they are not. The discoloration you see is a tanline that I got from my sandals. Triangle tan lines WOO!

Aren't these great? I got them at Rue 21 for $10! I was worried about the quality, I haven't worn them yet, but they feel nice and durable. I will get some good wear out of them.

5. Ross/T.J. Maxx/ The Gap Factory Store
Shirts and pants under 20 dollars? Count me in!

6. Friday Night Lights and Friendship Bracelets.
Ah Timmy, there is a glare on your face but you are still so good looking.
My sister and I spent our whole Wednesday watching Tim Riggins be gorgeous, and making candy stripe friendship bracelets. A day well spent I say.

7. Say Yes to the Dress
For some reason, I am addicted to that show. Whenever they are having a marathon on TLC I am hooked. I get crazy wedding fever. Sigh.

8. Jeremiah's with the Family
Today my dad came home and wanted some good home cooking. So instead of having my mom make something, we went down to Jeremiah's and indulged in the best comfort food in town. To make it even better, it was pouring rain outside. Oh so cozy. I love nights like these. I really love food and I REALLY REALLY REALLY love my family. So it was perfect.

Now for some Pinterest Fave's and Bloglovin'!

Monday Musing: I haven't really been musing about this...

Monday, July 23, 2012

I slacked off and didn't write a post on Saturday, and I was planning on slacking off today, because really my creative juices have all dried up. I have been having a ridiculous battle with the Student Employment website for my University, and I just want to read all day and not complete anything on my to do list. I don't like it when important things become frustrating. My anxiety picks up and I start to panic and worry about everything. Which would usually make me want to be productive, but no I just shut down and don't want to do anything. I don't want to sell myself in a resume, I don't want to make a copy of my SSN card, and I don't even want to look at my disaster of a class schedule right now. So yeah, no creative juices.

Well, life is funny, and the Lord works in mysterious ways, and He has a way of cheering you up, and helping you relax. Sometimes you log onto blogger, after almost having a "back to your high school days" nervous breakdown. Let me tell you, those are NEVER good. AND you see that your roommate from freshman year posted a blog about her future wedding.  So you start to giggle with delight at how cute it is and then you realize that you want to do the same thing. So you get on your pinterest board (come on, admit it, you have one) and you start saving all of the things you really want in your future wedding to your computer. And your creative juices start flowing, because your roommate is adorable and has great ideas. And you realize how sneaky tender mercies are. Even if they are blog posts and dream wedding boards on pinterest.

So before I have to go tackle my to-do list, I am going to do one of these posts about my FAR into the FUTURE wedding. I wasn't really thinking about it, but Megan inspired me. Who knows if my taste will be the same, but hey I think that Megan had a cute idea going on. A girl can dream right?

Let's start with the place...the most important part.

THE TEMPLE!
The temple in my town has been undergoing renovations and seriously it is going to be absolutely breathtaking. I would totally get married there. We'll see, I'd get married in any temple.

Now for the other stuff...

1. The Dress
Claire Pettibone's Sparrow: 1/2
Ida Sjostedt's Marilyn
Honorable Mentions:
Wedding Couture
1, 2, 3

2. The Ring ( I will be happy with whatever he chooses, but maybe he'll need some inspiration)
Tiffany Infinity Ring
Erie Basin: East Side Bride

3. The Shoes

Make them in white and they are perfect. Too edgy? Nahh.
Reception shoes anyone? 1,2
Something Blue?
Something Blue? 1, 2
4. The Flowers
Do I love poppies? Yes.
Wedding Flora
5. The Bridesmaids
Stripes! Yes!
I love the idea of bridesmaid dresses with the same style, but different colors and patterns.

6. The Cake

7. The Groom (He will probably decide what he wants...with my discretion of course.)

8. The Reception

9. Oh and I almost forgot...The Hair
Here is a link to beautiful wedding hairstyles. Courtesy of Pinterest and She Finds.

Honorable Mentions:

I sure hope we're both that happy to be married.

Kissing and dancing. There has to be kissing and dancing.

I would just like to thank Megan again for originally doing this post. It was very fun to read, and I had a great time doing one myself. Who knows what the future holds for me? Maybe I'll be married in a couple of months, maybe two years, maybe five. All I know is that I am no way near ready, and I got a lot of living to do, but it's always fun to sigh and daydream about that beautiful day. Now I have to get back to my To-Do list. Oh well, at least I'll complete my tasks with happy thoughts.

Have you ever thought about your dream wedding? The big day? The guy? Hahaha. Comment below and have a lovely day.
